John Thompson was a 14 year old delivery boy in 1924. One day the front wheel of his delivery bike was trapped in the tramlines and he toppled over. He took his load of meat back to the shop. The butcher washed, dried and repacked it.

John then delivered it to the customers.

The Delivery Bicycle was used to deliver all sorts of things, but was often called the 'butcher's bike'.

Parcels and packages of food were carried in the wicker basket in the special carrier over the front wheel.
