My shipmates and I went out on the deep (that’s the sea to you folk). Some of us were fishing and others were bringing back cargoes from foreign parts. Hard and dangerous work it was, I can tell you. Along with Geordie, the pitman, I’m a bearer on the coat of arms. That’s because we were so important to the development of the town of North Shields.
