The Bright Side
Listen to the poem
If every cloud has a silver lining,
And the darkest hour precedes the dawn.
Then why should we go through life repining,
When our sun may rise on a brighter morn.
Though the side of the shield may be leaden in hue,
With darkness and gloom and sorrow.
Remember the same has a golden side too,
That may burst into splendour to-morrow.
The clouds may hang low, and the horizon dim.
Yet, far beyond there's a bright sky of blue,
To cheer the brave heart that may beat within.
Then the glorious sun shines through.
To remember that life's not spent in vain,
Where kindly thought and kindlier deed,
May cheer the fallen in their pain.
A bounteous crop from humble seed.
Though Sisyphus tried and failed outright,
And tried with a will and all his might.
We admire his pluck in that uphill fight.
Let us try again, it may all come right.
